What is the IRS standard mileage rate for 2026?
There are two of them for 2026: $0.725 a mile for business miles driven before July 1, 2026, and $0.76 a mile from July 1, 2026 onwards. The rate was raised in the middle of the year, so any table that prints a single rate understates the second half of 2026 by $0.035 a mile.

The figures
The last column is arithmetic on the rate, shown because a year of driving is easier to picture in thousands of miles than in cents.
| Miles driven | Rate per mile | Per thousand miles |
|---|---|---|
| Before July 1, 2026 | $0.725 | $725 |
| From July 1, 2026 | $0.76 | $760 |
This is the fact most published tables get wrong, because the first rate was announced at the end of the previous year and the second only in July. If you are reconstructing a year of driving, the log has to be split at July 1, 2026: miles from before that date are worth $725 per thousand and miles from after it are worth $760 per thousand.
The rate covers fuel, maintenance, insurance and depreciation together — parking and tolls are claimed on top of it, and there is no version of this method that also allows actual car costs. Charitable and medical mileage have their own, far lower rates, which this dataset does not carry.
