- It calculates. Line totals are rounded before they are added, the way bookkeeping does it — so the figure on the invoice is the figure that lands in the bank, with no rounding drift between them.
- It knows tax can be inside the price, not only added to it. Templates written for one country get this wrong and quietly overcharge or undercharge everyone else.
- The discount comes off before the tax is worked out, because that is the order that is actually correct.
- The arithmetic is checked against a separate, independently written model before this page ships — and against a deliberate attempt to break it.

Materials and labour at different rates — one invoice?
Give them separate lines with their own quantities; the line total is quantity times rate, rounded, so 3.5 days at a day rate is exact. Keep one tax rate per document.
A retention is being held back. Can I show it?
Add it as a line with a negative rate and name it in the description. The balance due then states what is actually payable now, and the subtotal still shows the full value of the work.
Can a client pay in instalments against this?
Issue one invoice per stage. Each is its own document with its own number and date, which is what keeps a part-paid job auditable.

Is anything I type sent to you?
No. The whole thing runs in your browser, including the logo. Your draft is kept in this browser's own storage so it survives a reload, and clearing it removes everything. We never see it and there is nothing to sign up for.
How do I get a PDF?
Press print and choose Save as PDF. Only the document prints — the editing panel disappears. Pick A4 or US Letter above so the margins are right for your country.
What is the difference between tax added to the prices and tax already in them?
If your prices exclude tax, the tax is added on top and the total goes up. If your prices already include it, the total does not change and the tax is separated out of it for the paperwork. Getting this backwards changes what your client owes, which is why it is a choice here rather than an assumption.
Can I issue a credit note?
Yes — put a negative quantity on the line you are reversing. The discount and the tax reverse with it, so a credit note and the invoice it cancels come to exactly zero together.
Why does the unit price allow four decimal places?
Because real prices have them: per litre, per kilometre, per unit. If a price is rounded to cents before being multiplied by a quantity, the line is wrong by more the larger the quantity gets.
