A recovery plan is useful only if people can carry it out in the right order with the resources they have. Business Recovery & Rehearsal Desk turns one defined disruption — a payment-service outage, a failed order system, a power cut at a depot — into a sequence of actions with an owner, a contact reference, a duration, prerequisites and the time each step should be finished. It is built for a shop preparing for a service outage and for a medium-sized organisation coordinating recovery across departments and locations.
Plan the order. Actions are connected through explicit prerequisites, and the tool calculates the earliest completion estimate and whether it meets the recovery target (RTO) you entered. Parallel steps are treated as an unlimited-resources estimate: when two actions need the same person or team — the same resource label — you get an overlap warning instead of a silently reordered “optimal” schedule. A circular or missing prerequisite blocks the calculation and is named.
Test the plan. Record when each action actually started and finished in a rehearsal, with its cost. Incomplete critical steps stay incomplete — never zero minutes — and a recovery time is shown only when every critical action has a valid recorded completion. A completion recorded before its prerequisite is flagged as an error. The rehearsal comparison shows planned and recorded times in separate columns, so the report never claims a recovery merely because a document was created.
Worked example from the fictional demo: a 30-minute first action is followed by parallel actions of 20 and 40 minutes and a final 10-minute check, so the earliest estimate is 80 minutes against a 60-minute target — a 20-minute gap. Both parallel actions need the IT lead, which raises an overlap warning. In the rehearsal the 40-minute step took 50 minutes, so the recorded recovery is 90 minutes, not 80. The last backup was 90 minutes old at the start against a 60-minute RPO: 30 minutes over — an age check, not proof that the data can be restored.
Understand the business effect. The tool separates elapsed outage hours from the hours when the site was open, using each site's own opening calendar and time zone. Four open hours at $100 of contribution per hour plus $20 of extra cost per elapsed hour and a $50 fixed incident cost give $530 when the sales are lost. If the orders wait instead, the same outage costs $130 and creates a backlog of 40 orders; with 10 orders of spare hourly capacity it clears in 4 open hours. With no spare capacity the model shows no finite catch-up time rather than an invented one.
For medium-sized businesses, sites and departments stay visible: up to 25 sites and departments and 2,000 actions per scenario, filters by department, criticality and shared resource, and batch import of sites, scenarios, actions and rehearsal times from CSV or XLSX with every error and duplicate shown before anything is saved. A central team that looks fine in each site's plan becomes visible as the bottleneck it is. No AI guesses: every result shows its working, with the formula and inputs one click away.
Try the two fictional demos — a home-goods store with eight staff and a distributor with three sites and six departments — then buy once for the full online tool and the offline file, or open it with an active PRO subscription.
What you get
- Recovery timeline: every action on a time axis with owner, prerequisites, planned window, target clock time and the recorded completion of the selected rehearsal.
- Plan check: earliest start and finish over the prerequisite graph, planned recovery against your RTO, the chain that sets the estimate; cycles and missing prerequisites block the calculation.
- Shared-resource overlap warnings when parallel actions need the same person or team — no hidden assumption of unlimited staff, no silent rescheduling.
- Rehearsal comparison: recorded start, completion and cost per action against the plan; pending steps stay pending and out-of-order completions are errors.
- RPO age check of the recorded last backup — clearly labelled as an age check, not proof of recoverable data.
- Business effect: open vs elapsed outage hours by site calendar and time zone, lost or deferred demand (never both), extra costs, backlog and catch-up time.
- Sites, departments and filters for medium-sized organisations; CSV/XLSX import with a preview of every error and duplicate.
- Recovery runbook, contacts reference sheet, drill comparison and impact report to print or save as PDF, CSV exports and full backups in 8 languages.
How it works
- Define the disruption. One scenario per disruption: site, department, trigger, what counts as recovered, start time, RTO and, if data matters, RPO.
- List the recovery actions. Owner role, contact reference, duration, prerequisites, shared resource and whether the step is critical.
- Check the plan. See the earliest completion estimate, the gap to your RTO and every shared-resource overlap.
- Rehearse and compare. Record actual times in a drill, compare them with the plan and print the runbook, the drill comparison and the business effect.
Limits
This tool does not secure systems, make backups, restore equipment or certify compliance. It does not scan computers, simulate attacks, call emergency services or email staff. A recent backup timestamp does not prove that its data can be recovered. Estimates depend on your durations, resources and assumptions; the business effect uses the figures you enter and is not an insured loss or actual damage. One currency per workspace; no currency conversion.
Questions
Is this another risk score?
No. It documents and checks recovery actions: their order, timing, owners and what a rehearsal actually demonstrated. Use Business Fragility X-Ray to investigate vulnerabilities; use this tool to prepare and test the recovery sequence.
Are parallel actions assumed to have enough resources?
The earliest estimate is. Actions that share a resource label and overlap in time produce a warning, and you decide whether to add a prerequisite so they run one after the other.
Can it calculate a backlog?
Yes, for an explicit deferred-demand scenario: orders per open hour times open outage hours. Catch-up time is shown only when post-recovery capacity exceeds normal capacity.
Does it call or email staff?
No. It stores contact references (never passwords or access codes) and prints a contacts sheet, but it does not contact anyone.
What is the difference between RTO and RPO here?
RTO is your target for resuming critical work, in elapsed minutes. RPO is the oldest data you can accept losing; the tool checks the age of a recorded backup against it, which is not proof that the backup can be restored.
Why is the business effect shorter than the outage?
Lost contribution counts only hours when the site was open according to its calendar. Extra costs per outage hour count every elapsed hour, open or closed.
Does this use AI?
No. Calculations follow the rules and assumptions shown in the tool. The help panels explain the inputs, formulas and limitations.
What is included in a one-time purchase?
The full online tool, the self-contained offline package, a guide, templates and your own reports and backups, under the licence shown at checkout.
Is it included in PRO?
Active PRO Week, Month and Year subscribers can use the full online tool. The offline program for this new tool is included only with a one-time purchase. Your own reports and data backups are not offline-program downloads.
What happens if PRO ends?
You can still view and back up your existing local records. Creating or editing calculations requires renewed PRO or a one-time purchase. A separate one-time purchase remains valid independently of PRO.
Where are my records stored?
The workspace stores records in your browser on this device. Save regular backups. Clearing browser storage can remove local records. Account and purchase records are handled separately by the website.
Does the demo accept my data?
No. The demo uses fictional examples and lets you inspect the workflow and sample reports. Your own inputs and imports are available in the full version.
Business license for use in your own business. No resale or redistribution. Opens in your browser right after payment, on phone and computer. Your figures stay on your device. No physical item.
