The lowest tuition is not always the lowest-cost education offer. Mandatory fees, housing, travel, insurance, deposits, equipment, currency and the timing of scholarship or family money can change both the total and the amount that must be borrowed. An offer letter shows one number; the real decision depends on a dozen.

Education Offer & Funding Gap Lab compares each offer on the same timeline. Enter every cost in its native currency and due term. Apply scholarships only to eligible components and keep renewal conditions visible. Allocate savings, family contributions, work income and loans through a transparent funding waterfall so that the same money cannot fill two gaps.

The term cash plan exposes timing. A refundable deposit is still cash required before it is returned. A scholarship paid after tuition can leave a temporary shortfall. Currency and renewal-failure scenarios show how an apparently affordable offer changes without presenting a forecast.

Compare total net cost, peak gap, required borrowing, conditional funding share and an entered loan schedule. The program does not assess admission, award eligibility, visa rules or suitability of a loan. It gives a consistent financial comparison from the information entered.

Worked example from the fictional demo. Tuition is 10,000 and the scholarship is 20 % of tuition only, so the aid is 2,000 — the 5,000 for student housing is not reduced. A refundable housing deposit of 1,000 is due on 15 May, before the family money arrives with the first term on 1 September. Over the year the funds cover the costs, yet the cash plan shows a temporary gap of 1,000 from 15 May: the money has to arrive earlier or a bridge is needed. The year-2 scholarship depends on a renewal, so the baseline leaves it out and the “all conditions met” view adds it. A second offer is priced in EUR: each EUR cost is converted with the rate you entered, 1.1, and a +10 % stress view changes the EUR amounts only. If a rate is not known for a future date, that offer keeps its native-currency total and its converted comparison is marked incomplete instead of being shown as zero.

What it does not do: it does not apply to schools, judge admission chances, decide whether you qualify for an award, interpret visa or immigration rules, recommend a lender or a loan, or contact anyone. No country's tuition, aid or student-loan rules are built in. There is no winner badge and no hidden score — a weighted figure appears only if you enter your own weights.

Try the full demo first: three fictional scenarios (three international offers; lower tuition with an earlier deposit; scholarship renewal with a currency drop) with every screen, “How calculated” and sample reports open. One-time purchase: the full online tool for this product plus the downloadable offline program package. PRO: full online access while your subscription is active, without the new offline package. Both let you keep the reports and backups you create.

What you get

  • Put every offer into the same cost structure: tuition, mandatory fees, deposits, materials, housing, food, transport, travel, visa and insurance — each in its own currency and due date.
  • Apply scholarships and grants only to the categories and terms they cover, as a fixed amount or a percentage, capped at the eligible cost.
  • Keep confirmed, conditional and renewal-dependent aid apart, with a baseline, an all-conditions-met and a renewal-fails view.
  • Fill the costs through a visible funding waterfall — aid, deposit refunds, savings and family, work income (with an hours cap), loans — each source used once.
  • See the dated term cash plan: the lowest position, the peak funding gap and the earliest unpaid date, even when the year balances.
  • Model loans with an effective or nominal rate, draws, financed or separately paid fees, deferred, interest-only or fixed study payments, grace and an annuity repayment.
  • Convert with your own dated exchange rates and test a currency stress that changes foreign amounts only.
  • Compare net cost, required borrowing, peak gap, loan repayment, first-year cost, duration and conditional funding share in one trade-off table, and record your decision.
  • Print or export the comparison (CSV, XLSX, JSON), the payment calendar (CSV, ICS), the scholarship conditions checklist, the funding plan and the loan schedule.

How it works

  1. Add offers and terms. Each school or programme with its dates, currency and terms (years or semesters).
  2. Enter every cost and award. Components with native currency and due date; scholarships and grants with eligible categories, status and renewal.
  3. Add your funding. Savings, family money, work income and loans with draws, fees, grace and repayment term — plus dated exchange rates.
  4. Compare and decide. Read the term cash plan and the trade-off table, open “How calculated” for any figure, record your decision and export.

Limits

Uses only the costs, awards, conditions, exchange rates and loan terms you enter. It does not assess admission, award eligibility, visa rules or loan suitability and does not apply any country's tuition, aid or student-loan rules. Decision support for a household, not financial, legal, admissions or financial-aid advice.

Questions

Is the offer with the lowest tuition the cheapest?

Not necessarily. Fees, housing, travel, insurance, deposits, currency and the timing of aid and family money can change both the total and the borrowing. The tool puts every offer into the same cost structure so you can see where the difference comes from.

How is a percentage scholarship applied?

Only to the categories you tick and only within its terms. In the fictional demo a 20 % tuition-only scholarship on tuition of 10,000 gives 2,000; the 5,000 for housing is not reduced.

Why can there be a gap when my annual funds cover the costs?

Because money is due on dates. A refundable 1,000 deposit due before the family money arrives creates a temporary 1,000 gap, even if the year balances. The term cash plan shows the earliest unpaid date.

What happens to a scholarship that must be renewed?

From the renewal term on it is conditional. The baseline leaves it out, the “all conditions met” view counts it and the “renewal fails” view removes the renewal only. Nothing is shown as a probability.

How are other currencies handled?

Every cost keeps its own currency. Conversion uses the dated rate you enter, and a stress percentage can test a downside for foreign amounts only. If a future rate is unknown, the native total stays valid and the converted comparison is marked incomplete.

Does it pick an offer for me?

No. It shows trade-offs: net cost, required borrowing, peak gap, loan repayment, first-year cost and conditional funding share. A single weighted figure appears only if you enter your own weights.

Does it give admissions, financial-aid or loan advice?

No. It does not assess admission, award eligibility, visa rules or whether a loan suits you, and it applies no country's rules. It calculates from the information you enter.

Does this use AI?

No. Calculations follow the rules and assumptions shown in the tool. “How calculated” explains the inputs, formula, steps and records behind every figure.

What is included in a one-time purchase?

The full online tool, the self-contained offline package, a guide, templates and your own reports and backups, under the licence shown at checkout.

Is it included in PRO?

Active PRO Week, Month and Year subscribers can use the full online tool. The offline program for this new tool is included only with a one-time purchase. Your own reports and data backups are not offline-program downloads.

What happens if PRO ends?

You can still view and back up your existing local records. Creating or editing calculations requires renewed PRO or a one-time purchase. A separate one-time purchase remains valid independently of PRO.

Where are my records stored?

The calculation workspace stores records in your browser on this device. Save regular backups. Clearing browser storage can remove local records. Account and purchase records are handled separately by the website.

Can I use another language or currency?

The interface supports English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch and Russian. Choose your calculation currency separately from the language; changing the language never converts an amount.

Does the demo accept my data?

No. The demo uses fictional examples and lets you inspect every screen and sample report. Your own inputs and imports are available in the full version.

Personal-use license for one household. No resale or redistribution. Opens in your browser right after payment, on phone and computer. Your figures stay on your device. No physical item.
