For small makers — candles, soap, cosmetics, ceramics, food, print and sewing workshops — who make products in batches with set-up, hands-on work and waiting time such as drying or curing, and who juggle several customer orders, limited stock and suppliers with packs, minimum orders and lead times. It is not an industrial planning system; it is one tool for the next weeks of production.

Why this and not a batch-costing spreadsheet: besides cost per good unit, it places every set-up, work and waiting step of your orders in a dated production calendar, names each late order with its cause — materials, work time, equipment or waiting — and recalculates the plan with an extra worker, longer hours or more equipment to show which change removes the delay. Material purchases come in whole packs with order-by dates and a cash check. One payment, no subscription; no bank, accounting or marketplace connection; your data stays on your device; no AI — every result is an exact decimal calculation with “How it is calculated”, in 8 languages and any currency.

You enter your materials with stock, price, pack size, minimum order, lead time, availability and expiry; your equipment and products with batch size, set-up and work minutes, waiting time, equipment capacity and expected defect rate; a bill of materials per unit or per batch; your orders with due date, price, advance, priority and confirmation; and your working days, hours, workers, hourly cost, days off and the cash you can spend on materials.

You get the units to start for every order, the batches, the material needs and a purchase list in whole packs with order-by dates and a cash check, a calendar of every operation in a fixed, stated order, late orders with their cause and first possible ready date, alternative scenarios with the extra worker, hours or equipment that would remove the delay, a batch-size comparison on stated criteria, and costing per order. No AI — exact, traceable calculations. One-time payment, no subscription. It works on a phone and a computer, and your data stays on your device.

What's inside

Starts and batches per orderStarts = good units ÷ (1 − defect rate), rounded up; batches = starts ÷ batch size, rounded up. Choose per product whether a smaller last batch is allowed; if not, the surplus units are shown.
Material needs and purchase listNeeds from your bill of materials per unit or per batch, minus usable stock (expired stock is left out). Purchases respect the minimum order and whole packs, with the date to order by and the arrival date — as a PDF and CSV.
Cash check for purchasesPurchase cash in list order against your budget, optionally plus advances already received on confirmed orders, with a running total and the amount missing.
Production calendarEvery set-up, work and waiting step placed in the first free slot once its materials and the previous step are ready, on your working days and hours, with days off and extra shifts.
Late orders with the causeEach late order shows its due date, the first possible ready date and the cause found in the plan: materials, work time, equipment or waiting.
Resource increase neededAlternative scenarios recalculate the whole plan with materials on the start date, more workers, longer days or more equipment units, and show which change removes all lateness.
Labour and waiting kept apartLabour = batches × set-up + starts × work time. Waiting is not paid labour; you choose per product whether the equipment stays occupied while a batch dries or cures.
Cost per good unit and order costing(Materials + labour + batch costs) ÷ expected good units, plus packaging, revenue without tax, contribution, advance and balance for each order.
Batch-size comparisonEnter other batch sizes and compare set-up minutes per unit, cost per good unit, surplus, purchase cash and ready date side by side. The tool does not pick a size for you.
Seven documentsProduction cards, batch bill of materials, purchase list, production calendar, internal order costing, a purchase request for suppliers and ready dates for customers — A4 or US Letter.

Questions

Who is it for?

Small makers and workshops that produce in batches for customer orders and buy their own materials: candles, soap and cosmetics, ceramics, bakery and food production, printing, sewing and similar crafts.

Is the calendar the best possible schedule?

No, and it says so. Orders are planned in a fixed order — confirmed first, then higher priority, earlier due date, earlier order date and order number — and each operation goes into the first free slot. It is a deterministic plan you can follow and check, not a proven optimal schedule.

What does it not calculate?

It does not forecast demand or supplier delays, does not reuse surplus from one order for another or count finished goods in stock, and does not calculate income tax or overheads. Workers are treated as interchangeable, and exchange rates are the ones you enter.

How are defects handled?

You enter the defect rate you expect for each product. The tool starts enough units to reach your good units at that rate and shows expected good units and surplus. These are expectations, not guarantees.

Can I try it first?

Yes. The free demo at /tools/maker-batch-order-planner uses a fictional candle studio with eight materials, three products and five orders, and every screen, calculation and document works there. Your own projects, file import and saved work open after purchase.

Where is my data stored?

In your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to us. You can download a JSON backup of any project and restore it on another device.

Business license for use in your own business. No resale or redistribution. Opens in your browser right after payment, on phone and computer. Your figures stay on your device. No physical item.
