For cafés, restaurants, food trucks and dark kitchens that sell dine-in, takeaway and delivery — and want to know which dishes pay for the kitchen and which only keep it busy. It is one tool for one job: the economics of your menu, recipe by recipe, using your own prices and sales.

Why this and not a recipe-costing spreadsheet: besides food cost, it finds the kitchen station that limits you and the contribution of each dish per minute of that station, and builds a production plan in whole portions within your station minutes and limits. Yield is applied exactly once per recipe line, and a new ingredient price recalculates every dependent recipe and sub-recipe with the price that keeps each dish's previous contribution. One payment, no subscription; no bank, accounting or marketplace connection; your data stays on your device; no AI — every result is an exact decimal calculation with “How it is calculated”, in 8 languages and any currency.

You enter your ingredients as you buy them (pack size, pack price, usable yield, tax and currency), your recipes with sub-recipes such as sauces or prepped fries, batch and service times, packaging per channel, then prices, portions sold, discounts, refunds and waste per dish and channel, the fees and sales tax of each channel, your fixed costs and the minutes each kitchen station has.

You get the contribution of every dish in every channel, the kitchen bottleneck and contribution per bottleneck minute, a popularity/contribution grouping with its thresholds shown, a production plan in whole portions from an exact search, a shopping list in whole packs, and what new ingredient prices or portion sizes change — with the price that keeps each dish's previous contribution. No AI — exact, traceable calculations. One-time payment, no subscription. It works on a phone and a computer, and your data stays on your device.

What's inside

Recipe costing with yield done onceEach recipe line says whether its quantity is usable (after trimming) or as bought, so the yield is applied exactly once. Units convert g↔kg, ml↔l and oz↔lb; mass↔volume only with your density.
Sub-recipesSauces, doughs and prepped items costed per litre, kilo or piece and used inside dishes; circular sub-recipes are refused before calculating.
Contribution by dish and channelDine-in, takeaway and delivery: net price after sales tax, fees on what the guest pays, food, variable labour, packaging, discounts, refunds and waste — per portion and for the period.
Fixed salaries kept apartChoose fixed salaries or hourly pay: a fixed cook salary stays in fixed costs and is never deducted again per portion.
Kitchen bottleneck and contribution per minuteStation load from portions × minutes, the limiting station, and contribution per minute of that station for every dish.
Popularity and contribution groupsDishes grouped against the average portions of active dishes and the weighted average contribution — both thresholds printed, with a note that this is one rule, not a universal standard.
Production planWhole portions per dish and channel with the most contribution within station minutes, your minimums, maximums, demand limits and ingredient limits; labelled “Feasible plan; optimality not proven” if the 5-second search does not finish.
Ingredient price and portion changesNew pack prices recompute every dependent recipe, sub-recipe and combo; dishes over your threshold are flagged with the price that keeps their previous contribution.
Shopping list and kitchen documentsShopping list in whole packs minus stock on hand, recipe cost cards, a production plan for the kitchen, a price-change review and a menu price list for guests — PDF A4 or US Letter, plus CSV.
Scenarios and backupCompare Current, Variant A and Variant B; import ingredients, recipe lines and sales from CSV or XLSX with a row check; keep a JSON backup of each project.

Questions

Who is it for?

Owners and chefs of small restaurants, cafés, food trucks and delivery kitchens who want each dish's real contribution per channel and per kitchen minute, without an ERP or a connection to their till.

How does it handle trimming loss without counting it twice?

You enter the usable yield on the ingredient once. On each recipe line you say whether the quantity is usable (after trimming — the yield is applied) or as bought (before trimming — it is not). The cost card shows both quantities.

Does it tell me how guests will react to a price change?

No. It shows the price that keeps a dish's previous contribution and what your own quantity assumptions give. It never forecasts demand or guest behaviour.

What does it not calculate?

Demand forecasts, income or payroll taxes, VAT returns, automatic exchange rates, fluid-ounce or cup conversions, food safety, allergens and nutrition. Fees are treated as not returned on refunds, and the plan works in whole portions per dish and channel.

Can I try it first?

Yes. The free demo at /tools/menu-profit-planner uses a fictional bistro with twelve ingredients, two sub-recipes, five dishes, three channels and four stations, and every screen and calculation works there. Your own projects, file import and saved work open after purchase.

Where is my data stored?

In your browser, on your device. Nothing is sent to us. You can download a JSON backup of any project and restore it on another device.

Business license for use in your own business. No resale or redistribution. Opens in your browser right after payment, on phone and computer. Your figures stay on your device. No physical item.
